Castrol has launched Rivermax 15W-40 CK-4/E9, a synthetic heavy-duty diesel engine oil which it says is designed to provide superior protection for a wide range of marine diesel engines. It’s available in a variety of sizes, including 20L small packs, 208L drums, and bulk and mini bulks.
The new formulation is specifically developed for craft used on inland waterways and meets the latest ACEA and API specifications.
“We’re committed to delivering high-performance lubrication solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers,” says Henning Von Rheden, brand & communication director, Europe at Castrol — which makes a variety of products for marine applications. “The launch of this new Rivermax product brings the latest industry specifications to our marine customers, ensuring Castrol’s commitment to the latest technology and specification.”
Castrol says the introduction of the formulation marks an evolution for the Rivermax product. Previously known as CRB Rivermax, the product has now been rebranded under the Rivermax sub-brand, reflecting Castrol’s commitment to innovation and performance in the marine sector.
Rebranding sub-brands aside, Rivermax 15W-40 CK-4/E9 is said to be suitable for heavy-duty marine diesel engines, including high-speed outboard diesel engines, stern drive diesel engines and inboard diesel engines found in commercial fishing boats, cargo ships, tugboats and passenger ferries.
It’s engineered to support high-speed four-stroke diesel engines operating with a wide range of fuel qualities and is compatible with engines equipped with exhaust gas recirculation and modern exhaust after-treatment systems such as diesel particulate filters, diesel oxidation catalysts and selective catalytic reduction systems. That said, like many of these claims, Castrol advocates that owners should refer to the engine makers manual.
It contains cleaning agents which help to displace particles that may otherwise build up on the engine’s internal surfaces, helping to reduce deposits and promote engine efficiency. The product also contains antioxidants which help to impede the chemical reactions that can lead to oil thickening, as well as offering protection against wear and corrosion.
