Castoldi, which manufactures waterjet propulsion systems and yacht tenders, has unveiled its new Jet Tender 17 which is now in production. The company says this is a completely redesigned boat compared to the previous model and it’s delighted with the space that it now offers for its size.

“We have completely redesigned this model to offer a superior experience in every respect,” says Giacomo Castoldi, CEO (more details of the company can be found on its website). “The new Jet Tender 17 is a multi-purpose tender, perfectly suited to both the needs of the crew and the comfort and safety of the guests.”

The company entered the tender market in the late 1990s. At the time Castoldi says it was looking for a specific product that would benefit from the use of its waterjet drives which it had been building – as its core business – for military, commercial and pleasure use since 1962.

He says that manoeuvrability, safety and reduced protrusion under the hull are essential features for a tender. And that’s what’s made JT 17 popular.

“JT 17 was already in production and was a very successful model of ours, due to its unique technical characteristics and layout,” he continues. The redesign is already in demand.

“Several units in production [are] sold on paper, and two units [are] already delivered. We are happy because customers have given us confidence without yet having seen the finished JT 17.”

Castoldi says as well as an elegant design, the Jet Tender 17 has a comfortable stern hatch, a large loading area and a bow ramp for beaching. Several folding and removable bow and stern awnings are available, offering protection to passengers.

The optimisation of interior volumes and the passenger area are designed to enhance comfort.

The tender is equipped with a gull-wing hull, laminated in Kevlar, which provides lateral stability and high navigation comfort, and a 170 HP diesel engine coupled to the Castoldi Turbodrive 224 DA waterjet.

“JT 17 was designed to be a multi-role tender for both owner and crew use, for either charter or private owner. The Kevlar construction and propulsion (engine + waterjet) are very robust and therefore designed for intensive, everyday use,” he says.

All the construction materials in use are sourced from Europe, and construction is done entirely in the factory in Milan, Italy. The engine is Yanmar (Japanese) while the waterjet drive is Castoldi.

“Our factory is located in an area of the Lombardy region that is constantly monitored by the authorities for harmful emissions. For this reason, as we work with resin and other components while laminating the boats, we made a major investment years ago to install massive air purification systems for the sake of the environment and the health of our workers,” he concludes.

The company recently announced it had completed successful sea trials for two patrol vessels, both equipped with dual installations of the latest Castoldi Turbodrive 400 HCT waterjets. One is for the Italian Coastguard, the other is for fisheries patrol duties in the North Sea, Germany.
